Environmental advocates, civil society groups, and concerned citizens held a “Manila Bay Sunset Action” protest rally along Roxas Boulevard, June 3, 2023. The groups call on the government for a stop to ongoing and proposed reclamations in Manila bay and other parts of the country which they say would harm the environment, affect livelihood of fishing communities as well as debase the cultural importance of the renowned Manila Bay sunset.

Organized by anti-reclamation group People’s NICHE, the assembly is participated by various organizations which includes Kalikasan People’s Network for the Environment, Center for Environmental Concerns – Philippines, PAMALAKAYA-Pilipinas, Oceana, Youth Advocate for Climate Action Philippines and AGHAM – Advocates of Science and Technology for the People.

The protest gathering started at the Rajah Sulayman Park in Malate followed by a sunset march at the Baywalk, and culminated by the signing of “Manipesto ng Mamamayan Laban sa Reklamasyon.”
