Members of Samahan ng Ex-Detainees Laban sa Detensyon at Aresto (SELDA), Campaign Against the Return of the Marcoses and Martial Law (CARMMA), First Quarter Storm Movement (FQSM) and Project Gunita gathered at the Bantayog ng mga Bayani today November 18, 2023 to reinstate their strongest condemnation of Ferdinand Marcos’ burial at the Libingan ng mga Bayani seven years ago.
In 2016 — in an attempt to heal political divisions — then president Rodrigo Duterte ordered the transfer of Marcos’ remains to the Libingan ng mga Bayani. The move caused uproar from victims of human rights violations during the dictators’ rule.
In a press statement, SELDA Spokesperson says “giving Ferdinand Marcos Sr. a hero’s burial is not only an insult to the thousands and thousands of victims of human rights violations but a dishonor to the real heroes who emerged from the dark days of authoritarian rule.”

Highlight of the protest is a barbed-wire fence reminiscent of Martial Law and a stark reminder of the dark period in the country.
